Severe wildfires hit southern France as Ukrainian drones target Russian regions
French departments face severe wildfires while overnight Ukrainian drone strikes cause fires and casualties in western Russia.
French officials reported an exceptionally dangerous wildfire situation in southwestern France, specifically impacting the Gironde and Landes departments. Authorities described the ongoing emergency as "very unfavorable," noting that the cumulative burnt acreage across the nation this year has expanded well beyond levels recorded during similar periods in prior years.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted several areas in western Russia overnight into July 27. Explosions and resulting blazes were recorded in Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, and Belgorod, leaving individuals dead and injured while disrupting transport, including temporary closures on the Crimean Bridge.
