Romania's High Court resumed preliminary hearings against Călin Georgescu, while judges cleared a trial against former intelligence deputy chief Florian Coldea.

Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice resumed preliminary chamber hearings on Wednesday in the case involving former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, mercenary Horațiu Potra, and 20 other defendants. The group faces charges concerning actions against the constitutional order, following a postponement in June caused by a panel substitution. A crowd of supporters assembled outside the courthouse as proceedings recommenced.

In a separate ruling, the Bucharest Court of Appeal validated the Special Anti-Corruption Directorate's indictment against former Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) deputy director Florian Coldea, clearing the case for trial after more than a year in preliminary review. Coldea faces charges of establishing an organized criminal group. Meanwhile, media company PHG Media Invest initiated a €1 million lawsuit against Romania’s National Audiovisual Council over a 2023 broadcasting penalty.
