Romanian and Moldovan authorities are investigating human trafficking ring operations, police corruption claims, and severe domestic abuse incidents across the region.

Authorities in Romania and Moldova are confronting several serious cases of domestic abuse, police corruption allegations, and human trafficking across the region. In Romania, DIICOT prosecutors detained five members of a single family accused of subjecting individuals to forced labor and attempting to sell human trafficking victims. Separately, police in Galați arrested a 40-year-old man for kidnapping and assaulting his 18-year-old former partner, while an officer's vehicle was vandalized in Buhuși during protests following the detention of a domestic violence suspect.

In Moldova, a former victim serving a six-year sentence for stabbing her abusive son highlighted systemic issues, with one-fifth of inmates at Rusca prison incarcerated for domestic violence offenses. Meanwhile, a Moldovan family accused local law enforcement and prosecutors of extortion in a case stemming from the sexual abuse of a minor.
