Romania detonates Danube rock to secure water supply for nuclear plant

Romanian military forces blasted an underwater rock in the Danube to redirect water to the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant after an earlier failed attempt.
Romanian military forces conducted a controlled explosion on the Danube River to destroy the underwater Pârjoaia rock formation near the Bala arm, aiming to redirect a higher volume of water toward the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. The operation follows a previous unsuccessful attempt on Sunday. Acting Defense Minister Radu Miruță declared the operation a success, noting that it benefits both river navigation and the continued operation of the nuclear facility.
Reporting differed on the technical details of the operation: Mediapool reported that military personnel deployed a double explosive charge weighing 100 kilograms to break the formation, while Point stated that 180 kilograms of explosives were used during Monday's detonation.
