Europe faces extreme weather contrasts, from the driest July on record in England and Wales to fatal firefighting accidents in Greece and record rainfall in Norway.

Extreme summer weather across Europe continues to disrupt communities, marked by record droughts, wildfires, and localized heavy rainfall. In the United Kingdom, England and Wales recorded their driest July on record, leading to depleted river levels and premature harvests. Southern England experienced its driest single month ever recorded, according to national meteorological data.

Simultaneously, Southern Europe remains severely affected by heatwaves and blazes. Firefighting efforts turned tragic outside Athens, Greece, where two helicopters collided during an operation, resulting in the deaths of a Danish and a Greek crew member.

In contrast, parts of Northern Europe faced heavy precipitation, with Lurøy municipality in Norway receiving 350 millimeters of rain in July. Experts emphasize that climate change is increasing both the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events across the continent.
