Mount Etna's volcanic eruption has forced arrival suspensions and airspace closures at Catania Airport in Sicily, disrupting peak summer travel.

Mount Etna's latest eruption has spewed volcanic ash into the atmosphere, causing major flight disruptions at Catania Airport in Sicily.

Airport operator SAC temporarily suspended incoming flights and closed airspace impacted by the ash cloud southwest of the volcano. Departing flights were initially permitted to proceed, though airport management warned that operations remain unpredictable due to fluctuating volcanic activity. Authorities advised all passengers to check their flight status directly with airlines before traveling to the terminal.

Catania Airport is southern Italy's busiest travel hub, handling roughly 12 million passengers annually. The flight cancellations and delays come during peak summer holiday travel in the region.
