Moldova faces political friction over energy plans, governance and border security

Moldova faces domestic political debates over Russian gas imports and governance alongside legal actions in a state corruption probe and foreign policy responses.
Moldovan political and legal developments intensified as energy expert Sergiu Tofilat dismissed Socialist leader Igor Dodon’s proposal to import Russian gas via the TurkStream pipeline, labeling it unfeasible populism.
Meanwhile, former anti-corruption official Cristina Ciubotaru accused the ruling Action and Solidarity Party of adopting governance methods it once criticized. In the judiciary, Chișinău's Ciocana Court ordered 30-day pretrial detention for two suspects and house arrest for a third in a corruption investigation at state air navigation agency Moldatsa.
On foreign affairs, President Maia Sandu condemned Russian drone violations of Romanian airspace, while Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi reaffirmed Chișinău’s intent to seek compensation from Moscow for war-related damages.
