Moldova delays public sector wage hikes and debates holiday reform amid storm disruptions

Moldova postpones public sector pay raises and reviews national holidays while emergency crews repair storm-damaged power infrastructure.
Moldovan authorities have delayed planned public sector salary increases previously scheduled for September 1 to align the wage structure with updated fiscal policies. President Maia Sandu noted that implementing the raises on time is unlikely while the government assesses revenue coverage.
Simultaneously, severe weather damaged approximately ten high-voltage transmission towers along the Bălți–Dnestrovsk line, causing localized power outages.
In socio-economic initiatives, the government launched a holiday voucher scheme enabling employers to provide workers with up to 8,700 lei for domestic tourism. Additionally, officials initiated public discussions on revising national holidays after Prime Minister Vasile Tofan suggested Moldova has more non-working days than European Union member states.
