Kazakh president proposes freezing Ukraine conflict during meeting with Putin

Kazakh President Tokayev suggested freezing the Ukraine conflict to restart peace negotiations during a forum with Vladimir Putin in Omsk.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev suggested freezing the conflict in Ukraine as a potential path toward a peace agreement during a joint appearance with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at the Russia-Kazakhstan forum held in Omsk, Tokayev stated that pausing hostilities could enable Kyiv and Moscow to resume peace negotiations. During his address, the Kazakh leader praised Putin for what he described as "supreme diplomatic flexibility" when addressing possible solutions to the war.
Kazakhstan, a long-standing partner of Russia, has sought to maintain a balanced diplomatic stance since the invasion began in 2022. Neither Ukrainian nor Russian officials have indicated immediate willingness to accept a frozen conflict without major political and territorial concessions.
