An Istanbul court has declared the governorate's ban on November 25 demonstrations against violence against women unlawful after a challenge by the Istanbul Bar Association.

An administrative court in Istanbul has ruled that a two-day ban imposed on events marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was unlawful. The Istanbul Governorate had restricted gatherings, marches, and press statements in the Beyoğlu district on 25 November 2024, citing public order and crime prevention as justifications.

Following a legal challenge brought by the Istanbul Bar Association, the Istanbul 12th Administrative Court annulled the decision. The court stated that the authorities failed to present concrete justifications for prohibiting the demonstrations.
