Irish authorities have intercepted a military-grade car bomb near Carrickmacross in County Monaghan, arresting two suspects linked to dissident republican groups.

Irish authorities have intercepted what senior officers described as a "significant" car bomb near Carrickmacross in County Monaghan, allegedly thwarting a planned attack by dissident republican groups.

According to police statements led by Garda Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly, the intelligence-led operation targeted a vehicle carrying military-grade explosives, a detonator, and a power unit intended to be moved across the Northern Ireland border. Authorities highlighted the seizure as one of the most substantial explosive discoveries in the state in recent years.

Two individuals, including a female law student in her twenties who was driving the car and an associated male suspect, were detained following the interception. Both suspects are currently being questioned by counter-terrorism investigators.
