Icelandic and Slovak firms advance geothermal heating project in Slovakia

Icelandic firm Arctic Europe and Slovakia's MH Teplárenský Holding have launched operational work to develop geothermal district heating networks in Slovakia.
An agreement between Icelandic energy company Arctic Europe and Slovakia’s state heating operator, MH Teplárenský Holding, has entered its operational phase to develop geothermal space heating systems in Slovakia.
Following a memorandum of understanding signed last year, the partnership is moving forward with research plans and regulatory approvals. Sigurður Atli Jónsson, chief executive of Arctic Europe, stated that permitting and research will proceed throughout this year and next, paving the way for exploratory drilling in the subsequent phase. The joint project aims to utilize Icelandic geothermal technical expertise to assist Slovakia in transitioning its local district heating infrastructure toward renewable energy sources.
