German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a €1 billion military aid package for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv, as bilateral drone initiatives expand.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a €1 billion ($1.1 billion) military assistance package for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv. The support package includes turbojet-powered drone interceptors, standoff weaponry, and space-based technology.

During the Kyiv visit, German defence technology firm ARX Robotics and Ukrainian developer Roboneers signed an agreement to deepen cooperation on unmanned ground systems, focusing on technical integration and joint development for European and Ukrainian armed forces.

In tandem with the aid announcement, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany plans to establish its first dedicated drone regiment. Ground forces will form the new unit based on operational insights gained directly from front-line exchanges in Ukraine, marking a structural effort to institutionalize unmanned warfare capabilities.
