German prosecutors concluded that evidence strongly points to a deceased neo-Nazi in the 1970 Munich Jewish retirement home arson, though formal charges remain legally impossible.

German prosecutors in Munich have concluded their reinvestigation into the 1970 arson attack on a Jewish retirement home, determining that newly evaluated evidence strongly points to a deceased far-right extremist. The fire killed seven elderly residents and injured 15 others in one of post-war Germany's most prominent antisemitic crimes.

According to the Munich General Public Prosecutor's Office, the findings substantiated long-held suspicions against Bernd V., a neo-Nazi who died in 2020. Although authorities had identified him early in the original investigation, formal judicial proceedings and charges are impossible due to his death. Prosecutors noted that while the gathered material "strongly speaks to his guilt," the case cannot be formally resolved in court.
