German police shoot dead suspect following Berlin Pride vehicle attack
German police have shot and killed 21-year-old Abdul B., the suspect behind the deadly Berlin Pride vehicle attack, after he charged at special forces with a knife.
German police have shot and killed the primary suspect in Saturday night's attack on a Pride celebration in Berlin. Authorities located 21-year-old Abdul B. around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in an allotment garden in the city's Spandau district.
According to Berlin police, special forces (SEK) opened fire after the suspect ran toward officers wielding an edged weapon. German authorities had previously identified the suspect as connected to local Islamist networks and warned that he might be armed.
The attack, in which a vehicle was driven into a crowd near Lennéstrasse, left one person dead and at least 16 others critically injured. German officials continue to treat the incident as a targeted Islamist terrorist attack, while the violence has sparked heightened safety concerns among LGBTQ+ community members.
