Exiled Russian opposition leader Garry Kasparov says US and Lithuanian security services warned him and an associate that they face assassination threats.

Exiled Russian opposition leader and former world chess champion Garry Kasparov stated that American and Lithuanian intelligence services warned him that his life is in danger.

In a post on Telegram reacting to reporting by El Mundo, Kasparov confirmed that he and his associate Ivan Tyutrin, co-founder of the Free Russia Forum, were notified about being targeted for assassination. Kasparov described the revelation as "not a surprise for me, but it is still a shock," adding that he has taken security precautions while refusing to hide.

The warning follows recent US Justice Department indictments against individuals allegedly involved in Russian intelligence plots targeting dissidents abroad. Moscow has previously denied allegations regarding extraterritorial assassination plans as unfounded.
