Emergency crews in southern France have contained a wildfire near Montséret, though a blaze in Puilaurens remains active in steep terrain.

Firefighters in southern France have contained a 100-hectare wildfire near Montséret in the Aude department following a swift air and ground deployment. Authorities instructed residents in nearby Saint-André-de-Roquelongue to shelter indoors while emergency crews stabilized the blaze despite unfavorable weather conditions.

Meanwhile, a separate 225-hectare fire near Puilaurens remains active due to steep and inaccessible terrain. Elsewhere across southern France, emergency services have brought several blazes under control, with fires in the Var region extinguished and outbreaks in Drôme and Gironde halted. To mitigate further risks, local authorities restricted public access to seven forest massifs in the Var region.

Official figures show wildfires have burned 115,000 hectares across France this year. Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu is scheduled to visit Gironde on 17 August to help coordinate regional reconstruction efforts.
