French authorities move up to 500 high schools online after violent blockades, arson, and transit disruptions prompt an emergency interministerial crisis response.

French authorities have ordered between 400 and 500 high schools to transition to remote instruction following widespread student blockades and arson. Education Minister Édouard Geffray confirmed that 24 academic sites suffered severe vandalism or fire damage, including a blaze at Nelson Mandela High School in Nantes. Public transportation in Marseille and Strasbourg also experienced suspensions after staff and transit vehicles were attacked.

In response to the escalating unrest, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu convened an interministerial crisis committee and instructed government ministers to limit official travel. Officials stated that the demonstrations have transitioned into urban violence, prompting precautionary school closures ahead of scheduled inter-union strikes.
