Former Turkish opposition leader Özgür Özel has registered a new political entity, the New Party, following his departure from the CHP along with numerous lawmakers.

Former Turkish opposition leader Özgür Özel has officially submitted registration papers to establish a new political movement, the New Party (Yeni Parti), at the Ministry of Interior in Ankara.

Özel, who recently departed from the left-nationalist Republican People's Party (CHP), published video footage on Friday showing him signing the founding documentation. A substantial group of CHP parliamentarians is slated to follow Özel into the new organization, marking a significant realignment within Turkey's political opposition.

While the establishment of the party aims to reshape the parliamentary landscape, observers note that the political split carries potential risks and uncertainties regarding its long-term viability and electoral prospects.
