Five men have been arrested near RAF Fairford in England on suspicion of explosive offences and preparing a terrorist act following a major security alert.

British police have arrested five men near the RAF Fairford military base in Gloucestershire following a major security incident early Sunday morning. Authorities responded to reports of three suspicious vehicles travelling toward the airfield shortly after midnight.

Initially detained on suspicion of offences related to explosives, the suspects' arrests were subsequently upgraded to include the preparation of a terrorist act. Emergency services instituted heightened security measures and temporarily evacuated nearby residents while bomb disposal units assessed the area.

RAF Fairford is a Royal Air Force station in southwest England that regularly supports United States Air Force deployments. Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
