Finnish volunteer fighter detained in Russia as Moscow faces troop shortages

A Finnish volunteer fighter from Ukraine has been jailed in Russia, while reports highlight severe manpower shortages within the Russian military.
A Finnish man in his fifties who previously fought for Ukrainian forces has been jailed in Russia on mercenary charges following a trip to Africa. Identified by the pseudonym "Mikael," he is the first known volunteer combatant from Finland to end up in Russian custody after participating in the conflict.
Meanwhile, reports indicate severe personnel deficiencies inside the Russian armed forces. A conscript named Maksim told independent media that few soldiers from earlier recruitment waves remain active on the front lines. The mounting losses and manpower shortages have reignited speculation regarding potential future mobilization drives by the Russian government.
