A Finnish volunteer who fought in Ukraine is imprisoned in Russia, while reports reveal acute personnel shortages in the Russian armed forces.

A Finnish man in his fifties who previously fought as a volunteer for Ukrainian forces is currently imprisoned in Russia under mercenary charges, marking the first confirmed case of a Finnish combatant being held by Russian authorities. Identified by the pseudonym "Mikael," the Helsinkian was detained following a subsequent trip to Africa.

Concurrently, reports point to acute manpower shortages within the Russian military. A conscript named Maksim told independent outlet Meduza that few soldiers from initial recruitment drives remain operational on the front lines. The severe personnel losses have fueled persistent speculation regarding potential new mobilization measures by Moscow to sustain its war effort.
