Finnish national jailed in Russia as reports highlight Russian troop shortages

A Finnish volunteer fighter has been jailed in Russia, while reports point to severe manpower shortages in the Russian military.
A Finnish national in his fifties has been imprisoned in Russia on mercenary charges after previously fighting as a volunteer for Ukrainian forces. The Helsinki resident subsequently traveled to Africa before being taken into Russian custody, making him the first known Finnish foreign fighter detained by Moscow.
Separately, Finnish media highlighted reports of critical manpower shortages inside the Russian military. Citing an interview published by independent news outlet Meduza, a serviceman identified as Maksim stated that "hardly any mobilized men are left" due to heavy combat casualties. The losses have renewed speculation over whether Moscow may launch another mobilization drive to reinforce its forces in Ukraine.
