EU pledges over 700 million euros for global crisis relief

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced over 700 million euros in EU funding for global crisis relief, with a major focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the European Union will allocate over 700 million euros to support individuals affected by humanitarian crises and displacement worldwide. The announcement was delivered via a video message intended for the Global Citizen Festival in New York, which was cancelled due to severe weather.
A significant portion of the funding will target displaced populations in Sub-Saharan Africa alongside global aid efforts. Von der Leyen noted that "conflicts, extreme weather events and rising costs of living are throwing the lives of many people around the world off balance." The financial package will also address migration-related measures and emergency response efforts.
