Residents in Russian-occupied Oleshky face severe shortages, while a Finnish foreign fighter who served in Ukraine has been imprisoned in Russia.

Reports from Russian-occupied Oleshky in southern Ukraine indicate a severe humanitarian crisis, with local residents lacking access to basic necessities including food, clean water, electricity, and gas. According to accounts cited by Finnish media, some residents have been forced to resort to eating wild weeds to survive under prolonged Russian military control, which began in 2022.

Meanwhile, a Finnish national who volunteered with Ukrainian military forces has been imprisoned in Russia after traveling to Africa. Russian authorities charged the individual with acting as a mercenary. The case represents the first known instance of a Finnish foreign fighter being jailed by Russian law enforcement.
