Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte defended his pandemic-era policies during a parliamentary inquiry and submitted a dossier on questionable mask contracts to prosecutors.

Former Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte presented a detailed defense of his administration's pandemic management during a prolonged hearing before a parliamentary inquiry commission.

The Five Star Movement leader addressed questions regarding lockdown decrees, emergency equipment purchases, and vaccine rollouts, insisting that all government actions adhered strictly to the law. Denying any wrongdoing, Conte warned against turning the parliamentary inquiry into a political tribunal. He also announced that he submitted an anonymous document to judicial authorities in Rome concerning a 100-million-euro contract with JC Electronics involving potentially counterfeit face masks, calling for a thorough judicial examination of the procurement process.
