Chinese automotive brands like BYD are rapidly gaining market share in Albania, challenging the long-standing dominance of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Albania's long-standing reputation as a stronghold for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is shifting as new Chinese automotive brands expand their presence in the market. For decades, imported second-hand European luxury cars dominated the nation's roads. Data from 2022 showed that over 212,000 of the 740,000 registered vehicles in the country were Mercedes models, representing approximately 30 percent of all cars.

However, recent shifts in the new vehicle sector indicate a rapid transformation. Led by manufacturers such as BYD, Chinese brands are taking the lead in sales, gradually displacing traditional European automakers in the new car market.
