Ceuta's local president raised entry estimates to 80,000 as Spanish military units begin border returns amid political tension in Madrid.

The President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, has stated that 80,000 migrants entered the enclave during last week's border surge, a figure equivalent to the territory's entire population. This contrasts with reports from Morocco acknowledging 40,000 border attempts towards Ceuta and 11 deaths on its side.

Amid conflicting data, Spain's central government dismissed a National Security Department communications official over an unapproved report claiming 49,000 entries. Operationally, Spanish military units, including La Legión, have begun detaining and returning migrants to the border perimeter. The management of the response has intensified political tension between Spain's Interior and Defense ministries. Meanwhile, Guardia Civil officers in Ceuta have opened a specialized office to process missing persons reports, with regional officials estimating total fatalities at 88.
