Burnham says he is ready to stand up to Trump for UK interests

In his first interview as prime minister, Andy Burnham stated that he is prepared to oppose US President Donald Trump to safeguard British national interests above all else.

Speaking exclusively to the BBC, Burnham noted that he had an initial positive conversation with Trump following the US leader's re-election. However, when asked twice during the interview whether he trusted the American president, Burnham declined to give a direct answer. He emphasized that his primary duty remains protecting the United Kingdom's priorities in any diplomatic engagements with Washington.
