Armenia's Pashinyan rejects Putin's call for immediate EU referendum

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin's call for an immediate referendum on joining the European Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to hold a public referendum on Armenia's potential accession to the European Union. According to reports following a phone call between the two leaders, Putin insisted that Yerevan clarify its strategic position on whether to pursue integration with Brussels or remain within the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union.
In response, Pashinyan stated that holding a referendum on EU membership is currently premature. In recent months, Armenia has increasingly sought closer ties with Western powers despite its long-standing security and economic alliance with Moscow.
