All ten members of a climbing expedition on Pakistan's Broad Peak, including mountaineer Nirmal Purja, died in a Thursday avalanche, guiding company Elite Exped confirmed.

All ten members of a mountaineering expedition on Pakistan's Broad Peak have died following an avalanche on Thursday, according to a statement released Saturday by guiding company Elite Exped. The group was led by prominent British-Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, who was among those killed.

Initial rescue efforts on Friday sought six missing team members after four deaths were confirmed, but search operations on the world's 12th-highest mountain faced severe conditions. On Saturday, Elite Exped confirmed that there were no survivors from the strike. Purja, aged 43, was widely known in the global mountaineering community for setting speed records across the world's highest peaks.
