Wildfires across France and Spain have burned over 64,000 hectares, prompting military deployment in France and forcing NASA to relocate operations from a facility near Madrid.

Severe wildfires across southwestern France and central Spain continue to cause widespread evacuations and strain emergency services.

In France's Gironde region, blazes moving toward Bordeaux have destroyed more than 19,000 hectares, prompting French President Emmanuel Macron to deploy military personnel to assist exhausted firefighters and request European aid. Government officials warned that shifting weather conditions could exacerbate containment efforts.

In Spain, merged fire fronts in Madrid and Ávila have scorched roughly 45,000 hectares, forcing nearly 88,000 residents into evacuation or confinement. The advancing flames also triggered a precautionary evacuation of a deep-space communications facility near Madrid, leading NASA to temporarily transfer tracking operations to California.
