Wildfires burn across Spain and France as thousands evacuate

Firefighters in Spain and France struggle against severe wildfires that have forced 220,000 evacuations and burned 77,000 hectares.
Firefighters in Spain and France continue to battle massive wildfires that have consumed tens of thousands of hectares and forced approximately 220,000 people from their homes.
In Spain, three major blazes have burned around 77,000 hectares. Investigators determined that the country's largest wildfire originated from a heavy machinery spark near Burgohondo before merging with fires near Madrid and Toledo due to extreme heat, drought, and strong winds. Despite the ongoing threat, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that authorities see "light at the end of the tunnel."
In southwestern France, blazes have advanced within 15 kilometers of Bordeaux. The French president visited the affected region to meet with emergency crews as containment efforts persist across Southern Europe.
