Copernicus reports Western Europe experienced its hottest summer on record, with average temperatures reaching 21.7°C and surpassing previous levels set in 2003.

Western Europe experienced its hottest summer on record, according to data from the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service. The regional average temperature reached 21.7 degrees Celsius, standing 2.5 degrees above the 1991–2020 baseline and surpassing the previous record established in 2003.

Climate monitors noted that the extreme weather was not confined to peak summer months. Record-breaking daily temperatures were also documented in May and September, demonstrating the persistence and broad geographic scope of the heatwave across the region.
