Venezuela quake death toll rises to 6,125 in new official report
Venezuela's official death toll from June's twin earthquakes has risen to 6,125 following the first government update in weeks.
The official death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela in late June has risen to 6,125, according to updated statistics released by National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez.
The publication on Telegram marks the government's first official casualty report since July 24. Graphics shared by Rodríguez indicate that nearly 61,000 people received hospital treatment, while approximately 17,000 were injured. In the severely affected coastal state of La Guaira, around 1,400 individuals remain missing.
The successive magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors destroyed nearly 200 structures across the region. While public officials have committed to constructing replacement housing for displaced residents, the administration continues to draw criticism regarding its management of the crisis.
