US dispatches carrier to relieve USS Abraham Lincoln after prolonged Middle East mission

The US has dispatched the USS George Washington to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln following reports of severe crew strain and prolonged deployment in the Middle East.
The United States has dispatched the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East following concerns over conditions during an extended deployment.
The USS Abraham Lincoln has operated at sea for nearly nine months, including over six months without docking at a port, while participating in military operations connected to Iran. Military publications and lawmakers raised alarms over declining morale, food shortages, and mental health crises, including suicide attempts among the estimated 5,000 personnel aboard.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth dismissed reports regarding substandard onboard conditions, asserting that the situation was "completely misrepresented." Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump downplayed worries regarding the extended mission, characterizing the deployment duration as "not nearly long enough."
