Ukrainian group tracks environmental damage from ongoing war

Ukrainian NGO Ecoaction has documented over 2,500 instances of environmental damage caused by the war since February 2022.
Ukrainian environmental organization Ecoaction has recorded more than 2,500 instances of war-related ecological damage since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. According to Sofia Sadogurska, a climate expert at Ecoaction, advocates recognized from the start that the war would cause severe harm.
The tracked cases encompass major disasters, including the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in June 2023, alongside smaller localized incidents. The initiative highlights issues such as soil contamination, destroyed ecosystems, and elevated greenhouse gas emissions linked to military operations.
