Ukraine's former defense minister calls for post-war election framework

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged lawmakers to establish a legal framework for national elections once martial law is lifted.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to draft legislation enabling national elections once martial law ends. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that establishing clear legal procedures in advance is essential to ensure political stability after the conflict.
Ukrainian legislation currently bans holding votes under martial law. Organising post-war elections presents significant logistical hurdles, including ensuring ballot access for millions of internally displaced persons, overseas refugees, and frontline military personnel. Ukrainian authorities have not yet indicated when martial law might be lifted or when voting could occur.
