Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov urged Ukrainian lawmakers to establish a legal framework for national elections following the end of martial law.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged parliament to lay the groundwork for future national elections once martial law ends. Fedorov, who was removed from his post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, emphasized the importance of preparing electoral procedures in advance to ensure political stability following the conflict with Russia.

Under Ukrainian law, elections are prohibited while martial law remains in effect. Organizing eventual elections presents significant logistical hurdles, including accommodating millions of internally displaced persons, refugees residing abroad, and military personnel serving on active frontlines. Ukrainian leadership has not announced any timeline for lifting martial law or scheduling national polls.
