Former minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Ukraine's parliament to draft legislation preparing for national elections once martial law is lifted.

Former Ukrainian minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on the nation's parliament to establish a legal framework for future national elections once martial law is lifted. Fedorov, who was dismissed from his cabinet post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that advance legislative preparation is essential to prevent political disruption when military hostilities eventually end.

Ukrainian law currently prohibits holding national elections while martial law remains enforced. Proponents of early legislative planning emphasize that organizing post-conflict voting presents severe logistical challenges. Any future election will require resolving complex voting procedures for millions of internally displaced citizens, refugees residing abroad, and active-duty military personnel.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet specified a timeline for lifting martial law or scheduling future elections.
