Former minister Mykhailo Fedorov urges Ukraine's parliament to prepare a legal framework for post-war national elections.

Former Ukrainian cabinet minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to establish a legal framework for post-war elections once martial law is lifted. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that advance legislative preparation is necessary to prevent political disruption when hostilities end.

Under Ukrainian law, national elections are prohibited while martial law remains in force. Organizing post-conflict voting presents significant logistical challenges, such as facilitating participation for millions of displaced citizens, foreign refugees, and active military personnel. Ukrainian authorities have not yet indicated when martial law might end or when elections will be scheduled.
