Former Ukrainian defense minister urges parliament to prepare for post-war elections

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on parliament to draft legal frameworks for elections following the eventual end of martial law.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged lawmakers to establish a legal framework for national elections to take place once martial law is lifted. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stated that preparing legislation in advance is crucial for maintaining political stability following the war.
Ukrainian law currently prohibits elections during martial law. Any future vote faces complex logistical obstacles, including facilitating voting access for millions of displaced citizens, overseas refugees, and active-duty soldiers serving on the front lines. Ukrainian officials have not announced a timeframe for lifting martial law or scheduling future elections.
