Thieves have stolen a 2,500-year-old solid gold torque from a museum in Châtillon-sur-Seine, France, following previous break-in attempts at the facility.

Thieves have stolen an ancient gold torque from the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais in Châtillon-sur-Seine, France, marking the latest incident in a broader series of museum burglaries across the nation.

The stolen artifact is a solid gold necklace dating back 2,500 years and weighing 480 grams. Originally unearthed over seven decades ago inside an ancient burial mound, the torque is regarded as a major historical treasure. Facility officials revealed that intruders had previously targeted the premises during two failed break-in attempts, one in November and another just days before the successful heist.

Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation to trace the missing artifact and identify those involved in the robbery.
