Mexican security forces have arrested a suspect in the murder of Spanish exchange student Claudia Tacoronte, as universities bolster security protocols.

Mexican authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Spanish exchange student Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera in the state of Morelos. Security Minister Omar García Harfuch announced the detention of Francisco Javier 'N', alias "El Trompas," following a joint operation involving state police, the National Guard, and armed forces. Tacoronte was attending the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos as part of an academic exchange.

The killing has prompted universities to review and reinforce safety protocols for foreign exchange programs. Amid growing concern over violence against students in Mexico, another incident was reported in Guadalajara, where 22-year-old medical student Karla Margarita Pérez Jiménez was found dead with signs of violence after disappearing following a hospital shift.
