Spain to receive new DHC-515 firefighting aircraft from 2028
Spain has ordered seven DHC-515 firefighting aircraft from De Havilland, with deliveries to the Spanish Air and Space Force set to begin in 2028.
Spain has agreed to purchase seven new DHC-515 firefighting aircraft from Canadian manufacturer De Havilland, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. The procurement is part of a joint initiative alongside Greece, France, Italy, Portugal, and Croatia to modernize aerial firefighting capabilities across Southern Europe.
The new aircraft will join the Spanish Air and Space Force's 43 Group, replacing the aging fleet of Canadair CL-215T planes currently in service. The veteran fleet has faced heavy operational demands during recent wildfire campaigns, highlighting the need for modernized equipment to handle seasonal emergency responses.
