Ségolène Royal has gathered the required endorsements for October's left primary, joining Olivier Faure in a race marked by early friction.

Former French presidential candidate Ségolène Royal has officially gathered the required endorsements to compete in October’s left-wing primary ahead of the 2027 election. Royal joins six other declared contenders, including Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure, in the contest co-organized by the Socialist Party and Place Publique. Voting will occur across two rounds on October 9–10 and October 16–17.

Despite previous pledges among candidates to maintain campaign unity, internal friction has already emerged. Royal targeted rival candidate Raphaël Glucksmann, referring to him as the "chouchou des médias," raising questions about candidate discipline. Meanwhile, Communist Party leader Fabien Roussel announced he will bypass the primary process to launch an independent campaign.
