ScotWind to deliver £6 billion less to Scotland amid overseas spending shift
An analysis reveals Scotland will receive £6 billion less than expected from the ScotWind offshore wind programme as spending shifts to overseas firms.
Analysis from Crown Estate Scotland indicates that the ScotWind offshore wind initiative will generate approximately £6 billion less for the domestic economy than initially projected. Out of an estimated total expenditure of £88.6 billion for project development, only £25.6 billion is currently slated to be spent within Scotland. The remaining funds are expected to flow to foreign businesses as supply chain commitments shift overseas. The programme, which was previously described as a "truly historic" opportunity by Scotland's former First Minister, faces scrutiny over the reduced local economic returns. The figures highlight ongoing challenges in retaining green energy supply chain benefits within domestic markets.
