The fourth Sarajevo Security Conference focused on drone technology and airspace security as Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to open two new defense plants.

Security and defense experts gathered in Sarajevo for the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference to evaluate emerging threats to European stability, with a strong focus on airspace vulnerabilities and naval warfare modernization. EUROCONTROL official Major General Karsten Stoye cited low-altitude drone proliferation as the most significant new challenge facing European airspace over the next five years. Concurrently, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the integration of artificial intelligence and uncrewed vessels in maritime defense, noting that "the future belongs to drones."

Alongside the diplomatic discussions, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina government officials highlighted the rapid growth of the domestic defense sector at the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense exhibition. Domestic military production has doubled over the past three years, prompting plans to open two additional manufacturing plants to boost security reliance and international export competitiveness.
