International defense experts gathered in Sarajevo to address drone threats, while Bosnian officials announced plans to open two new military production plants.

The fourth Sarajevo Security Conference and the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense exhibition gathered over 300 diplomatic, military, and security experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss European defense issues.

During the conference, EUROCONTROL military adviser Major General Karsten Stoye warned that the rapid proliferation of low-altitude drones represents the primary new security challenge facing European airspace over the next five years. Addressing maritime security, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten highlighted the growing necessity of integrating artificial intelligence and uncrewed platforms into naval operations, remarking that "the future belongs to drones."

Concurrently, officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to open two new military production facilities. Government figures noted that domestic defense output doubled over the past three years, aiming to enhance national security capabilities and expand international exports.
