Bosnia expands defense production as regional security conference opens in Sarajevo
Security experts gathered in Sarajevo to address emerging airspace and naval threats, while Bosnian officials announced plans to expand domestic military production.
Security officials and defense industry representatives gathered in Sarajevo for the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference and the "First Balkan Shield 2026" defense exhibition.
At the conference, EUROCONTROL adviser Major General Karsten Stoye warned that the rapid proliferation of low-altitude drones poses the primary threat to European airspace over the next five years. Meanwhile, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the necessity of integrating uncrewed platforms and artificial intelligence into naval operations, stating "the future belongs to drones."
Concurrently, government officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to open two new manufacturing facilities to support the country's military industry. Entity leaders reported that domestic military production doubled over the past three years, aiming to boost national security capabilities and expand international export market presence.
